Web Proxy – Do They Really Work and Can They Really Make Anyone Anonymous on the Internet
A web proxy is possibly the most common kind of proxy server you’ll see online. The way web proxies function is very similar to normal proxy servers but there are still some major issues you should be aware of. Using a web proxy to be anonymous is a big mistake, but you will find that there are some situations where these proxies will work fine. A lack of anonymity and the inability to display a wide variety of media on websites are the two biggest issues with these kinds of proxies. If you are looking for a way to be anonymous while on the internet, then a web proxy is not what you need. The reasons for this are easy to see once you understand how a web proxy works and what limitations they suffer from.
Web proxy servers are best suited to casual and unimportant internet use. This generally means browsing websites like facebook or myspace from work or school. Web masters can easily see that you are using a proxy server and for this reason it is strongly recommended that if you want to be anonymous on the internet you should use an elite proxy server.
Elite proxy servers, unlike a web proxy, do make it possible for you to be completely anonymous and undetectable online. The IP they give you is undetectable as a proxy server IP and this makes it impossible for websites to detect that you are using a proxy server. Videos will play without a problem, javascript has no problem at all and all the kinds of website features and functions you have grown accustomed to will work fine with an elite proxy. If you are unsure as to whether or not you should use a web proxy or elite proxy, then only use a web proxy for the most basic and casual of internet use. This would be limited to reading news, looking at pictures online and very other general basic internet usage. Free Proxy Servers are used for anonymous browsing. Most common usage of free proxy server is to bypass the college/office or any other place’s security restrictions and access unrestricted sites. But proxy servers should be used with caution. If used without safety measures, it can result in big loss as compared to advantage of browsing the web anonymously. There are two ways through which you can hide your identity (your IP address) when surfing the internet. First and the most inexpensive way is to use free proxy server. There are many windows and linux proxy websites available on the internet which lets you use their services free of charge. The other option for hiding your identity is to use paid software. The IP hiding software, changes your IP address continuously to let you browse internet anonymously.
There are few important things you need to keep in mind when using free proxy servers.
1.) Watch out for your security
Do not give out any sensitive information such as your login details or credit card information when using different proxy servers because when you use free proxy server, all the information you provide on any website is first sent to free proxy server and then to the site server. So all the information go through the free proxy server and most of the time it is unencrypted, exposing your sensitive information for potential misuse.
Paid software are much better in terms of security. There systems are designed to conceal your IP and then discard all your information without any human involvement.
2.) Stability and Availability
There are many free proxy server sites but most of them are not stable and are not available every time you visit them. This problem is not very significant with paid software.
3.) Speed of Browsing
When you use any proxy server for hiding your IP, you can feel the slow speed of browsing instantaneously. Though there are good sites available for anonymous browsing but they are very difficult to find. Also, speed is not consistent; it depends largely on load on their servers. At times you do get good browsing speed but it’s not consistent. Again, paid software for hiding IP are much better at browsing speed. As they charge for their services, they ensure that the user experience is better and you do not get slow speed while browsing the internet through their software.
They are also great when you find a quality one that masks your country of origin. When looking for a Online Proxy make sure it has Java installed so you can watch movies. As you can sometimes have your country of origin cloaked but if java does not work it is not much use.

Practically every website you go to will claim that they have a fast proxy server, but if you try it you will see that the service is not only slow, but connecting can be difficult and at times even impossible. To avoid falling into this trap, you should assess these sites more carefully.
It must be pointed out however, that the speed at which you can download files, pictures and videos on the World Wide Web will be most dependent on the type of connection that you are using to access the Net. Meaning, a server that uses a broadband connection will always be faster than one relying on a dial up modem. This is a factor that needs to be mulled over. If you want faster connections, an upgrade might be necessary.
A fast proxy server however, can make a difference once the connection issues have been considered. We are not just referring to the time you connect (that is of course also important) but also the speed at which the page loads the images, plays the videos, etc. For some the best option would be to go for the pay sites. Some may not yet realize that there are now sites which will charge you a fixed amount every month to use their servers.
Because you will be paying money, you can expect to get fast service, and in a lot of cases they are. For some it is worth the price, but if you are going to avail of this type of fast proxy server, you should do some price comparison first; you might get some faster servers at a lower cost.
However, for those who do not want to pay a fee, there are other options. The ever changing technology is making it easier to set up these servers for use. This can be seen by the number of online pages that offer hourly or even updates every 15 minutes or so. This feature is particularly important because you do not want to spend your time trying to connect to a site that is already full or has disappeared.
Trying to find a fast proxy server on the Web to help you surf anonymously need not be like the lottery, wherein you have to get lucky just to get the results you want. If you are willing to spend money or just study the various websites out there, connecting to that quick one will only be a matter of time.
