HTTPS Proxies – Why HTTP Proxy Servers Are The Best
Of all the proxies available, HTTPS proxies offer the absolute best features that any proxy server software possibly can. A HTTPS proxy can not only provide true anonymity to anyone who uses it but is also capable of accessing the feature rich content that is so common amongst websites today.
A HTTP proxy stands out from all other proxies simply because they allow users to hide their true identity online. Web based proxies and other sub-standard proxies often are transparent or reveal their true identity as a proxy. Instead, a http proxy allows a user to change their IP online and remain completely anonymous. IPs from an HTTP proxy look like any other IP online and websites can not distinguish between them and the thousands of other IPs that may be accessing their website.
As the internet continues to grow and the web becomes filled with media rich content, HTTP proxy servers once more stand out from the crowd. HTTP proxies allow you to access javascript, cookies, video, audio and much more content that is becoming so common on websites today. Web based proxies and other sub-standard proxy servers often are unable to display this rich media. For the best online experience a HTTP proxy is essential.
If hiding your identity online while still being able to access websites normally is important to you, then HTTPS proxies are essential. Using anything less than a HTTP based proxy server will either risk revealing your identity online or being unable to access many websites and their content.

What is an IP address?
The internet is all about communication. Whenever you view a webpage, check your email, or download a photo, the fundamental action taking place is the transfer of information from one computer (or other device) to another. Just like the mail system requires that every sender and recipient have a unique postal address, the internet requires that every connected device have a unique address, too. Think about it – if your computer did not have its very own address, how would, for instance, a web server know where to send that web page you requested?
An internet-enabled device’s address is called an IP address. IP is an acronym for “Internet Protocol,” which is part of the “language” that computers networks use to communicate. Whether it is a computer, cell phone, iPad, or whatever else, any device that goes online has an IP address. They are composed of four numbers separated by periods, such as 127.0.0.1.
What is Internet Protocol Lookup?
Most of the time it is not necessary to know what your IP address is. Internet software, such as your web browser, hides such details away from the user for the sake of simplicity and convenience. If you want or need to, though, it’s easy to look up your own or someone else’s IP address. A tool called, appropriately, IP Lookup makes it simple to track IP addresses. There are numerous web-based versions of the tool available online.
What Information does Internet Protocol Lookup Provide?
IP Lookup allows you to track Internet Protocol addresses and provides you with a good deal of information on them. This includes the hostname (such as “google.com” or “wikipedia.org”) associated with it. A hostname, also called a domain name, is a human-readable short-hand for numbered addresses. IP Lookup also finds the Internet Service Provider (ISP) that the device with that address uses to connect to the internet and the general geographic location of the device. This function, called geolocation, works because a part of each IP address is assigned to ISPs based on physical location. It is usually accurate to about the city level but is not any more precise than that. So don’t worry, it isn’t possible to figure out where someone lives or works using an IP address.
You should also keep in mind that people can use tools such as Proxy and VPN to hide their real IP. So even the country name may not be accurate.

Making My VPS a Proxy Server
Is making my vps a proxy server possible? The good news is that you can turn your VPS into a proxy and it is actually much easier than you may think. You may already have a VPS that you use for web hosting or perhaps a place to store your files online. Turning your VPS into an elite proxy sounds complicated and the truth is that it can be unless you know what kind of VPS you need and which software to make it into a proxy. Read on to discover how you can make your VPS into a proxy server today.
The first thing is you need to make sure that your VPS is running linux or some variation of the linux operating system. This is important because the software you need to run your proxy with requires linux. Besides the right kind of operating system you also need to make sure that you have access to your VPS via command shell. Command shell looks much like DOS for Windows and this is necessary because you need to download and setup software on your VPS using the command shell. To find your command shell details just check the VPS information email your host sent you. You should see something about SSH access information and a login called root. There will be an IP and the username root with a password. This is what you need to access your VPS with.
Once you have all the information you need to login to your VPS and you are sure that it is running linux, the next step is to actually setup the proxy server on your VPS. The software you need is called Squid. The good news is that squid is completely free. This is actually great news because Squid, albeit free, is the absolutely best proxy server software available on the market today. Squid can do everything that paid software can do and much, much, more. Squid needs to be installed by logging into your VPS via the command shell. Once logged in you will have to download it and then begin to configure it. This is where the tricky part begins. Squid needs to be setup according to the IP and other information which is specific to your VPS. Don’t worry because once you know how to set Squid up it is actually very easy and you can have your proxy server up and running in as little as 30 minutes. Squid is powerful enough to allow you to create multiple user accounts on your proxy server and to assign each account with either the same or a unique IP.
The answer to making my vps a proxy server lies in making sure you have a linux based VPS and you have access to it via a command shell. Installing Squid will allow you to make the most of your VPS by turning it into a proxy server so you can use it privately or share it with your family and friends.

How to Find Safe Web Proxies
We’re all concerned with keeping not only our computers, but also our personal information safe as we surf the web these days. While email viruses are less of a threat than they were even a few years ago, identity theft is on the rise and identity thieves take advantage of every new technological development; adapting almost as fast as the technologies meant to thwart them. For this reason, keeping yourself protected from prying eyes as you go about your business online is important. One way that people sometimes (and should more often) use is proxy servers – but what are these servers and how do they keep you safer on the web?
Basically, a proxy server is just an ordinary web server, albeit one with a special function. This server lies between the web user and the sites they are visiting; with requests for web pages and files being relayed via this server. This relay means that it is the servers IP address which is reported to the site being visited rather than the IP address of the web user. Why is this important? IP addresses, particularly static IP addresses, which are more and more common with the expansion of broadband service, can be used to identify specific users. Just think about the implications of that for a moment.
It should be noted that not all proxy servers will hide this information which can be used to uniquely identify you from the sites you visit – there are anonymous proxy servers as well; these provide a higher degree of anonymity to you on the web. However, how can you tell which proxies are really protecting your identity? Read on for a few tips on how to find safe web proxies.
First, you can use the “whois” command if you are running any variant of Unix or Linux on your computer. There are also web-based interfaces for this program available, including the ones available at domaintools.com which can tell you if the owner of the proxy has hidden their contact information or not.
You can also use Google or another search engine to look up the proxy and see if anyone has had any experiences of malfeasance with the proxy and what, if anything people are saying about it. Another good source of information is available from the homepage of the proxy server itself; there should be a terms and conditions of use policy posted on the site which will tell you exactly what the proxy does and does not report to other sites in terms of information about users.
Using a web proxy can be a good way to protect your personal information and your privacy in general from those who may have bad intentions on the internet. However, while any proxy server provides you with more protection than no proxy at all, you should look into any web proxy before you use it to make sure that it is giving you all of the protection you are looking for. There are safe and anonymous web proxies out there, but finding one which will perform well for you may take just a little bit of investigation. Have fun out there and remember; safety first!
